Footfriend - Callus Treatment

Often simply referred to as hard skin, calluses can become painful if left untreated. Make an appointment with our expert podiatrists today.

Diagnosis & symptoms

Usually large patches of hard and yellowed skin are evident. These patches of hard skin can be over small or large areas and can sometimes be fissured (cracked). Often the skin in these sites is less flexible and can be quite dry.

Typical causes

Hard skin usually forms over areas of the feet where there is too much friction or pressure.

Types of callus treatment available

We provide a painless instant treatment here at Footfriend which usually rids you of this problem immediately. We will also educate you regarding this problem and how to try to prevent it. This can be very successful for many people.

Although you may have seen products in pharmacies or on television, we don’t recommend any which have either a blade or a “cheese grater” type function. The reason for this is that you can very easily injure yourself and (as they are not a sterile implement) you may get a nasty infection if you injure your skin with them. If you have diabetes, reduced circulation or any other problem that reduces your healing abilities, we strongly advise you to seek professional advice before using any implements or products on your feet.

Maintenance of calluses with a pumice stone can be an effective way for some people to manage them. It is also much safer than using metal implements and we advise that “little and often” is the best approach.

Using an effective foot cream to soften the skin in the area can be a useful way of maintaining your callused skin may reduce the amount of professional attention needed. We recommend CCS Foot Care Cream or CCS Cracked Heel Repair for this purpose.

Damian and Vicky are fantastic and sorted out my very painful foot. I’ve used their services for quite some time and they never disappoint. The ladies at Reception are fab too and we always have a laugh. Highly recommended.

I have been visiting Footfriend now for over 12 years . During this time, I have found the standard of care and service to be first class . As I get older , I find visiting a professional very superior to trying to care for my feet and toes myself.

I have been a client with Damian for a number of years. I am a Type 2 Diabetic and visit every eight weeks, Damian takes very good care of my feet, and keeps me up to date with information on the care of my feet, including ill fitting shoes. I would recommend him to all of my friends.
